John R. Wooden High School 'Save the Farm' Event
Councilman Dennis P. Zine attended the John R. Wooden High School “Save the Farm” Event in Reseda on Saturday. The John R. Wooden High School is a continuation school that has been part of the Reseda community since 1972. Originally named Aliso High School, it was renamed in 2005 after the famed UCLA basketball coach, John R. Wooden. The school incorporates a rural farm habitat for kids that blends nature and academics for their recovery from outside pressures.
The event that was sponsored by Revitalize Reseda helped gather volunteers to renovate the animal shelters and raise funds for the farm. The farm assists youth in the community by teaching them to work with chickens, geese, rabbits, goats, and even a pot bellied pig, named Ralph. Interacting with the animals shows the kids how to learn responsibility, acceptance, and unconditional love. It really is a “hands-on” approach to teaching the kids some key fundamentals needed in life.
Councilman Zine enjoyed his time at the farm and presented certificates to the volunteers, staff, and Revitalize Reseda President, Nancy Sweeney. He also made a contribution to help the farm continue their positive work in the community.
